Shri. V. N. Vasavan, Minister for Cooperation and Registration represents Ettumanoor constituency in Kottayam district in the 15th Kerala Legislative Assembly.
He was born on 09 August 1954 at Mattakkara in Kottayam district and started his political career in association with SFI in the Kottayam district. Previously, he held various positions like SFI Ettumanoor ITI unit secretary (1972-73), CPI (M) Pallikkathode local secretary (1976-80), KSYF district joint secretary and DYFI state committee member (1976-80 ), CITU taluk president and CPI(M) Puthupalli area committee member (1980-82 ), CITU state committee member and also Kottayam medical college development committee member (since 1984), CPI(M) district committee member (since 1991), district secretariat member and also director board member of RubCo (since 1997), director of Kerala State Co-operative Bank (1997-2001), president of District Co-operative Bank (1997-2002), CITU national working committee member (2000), president and secretary of CITU Kottayam district (2002-2008), Kottayam MLA (2006-2011), Estimate Committee member, Syndicate member of Sanskrit University (2006-2011), chairman of RubCo.(2013-2014), chairman of T. K. Ramakrishnan Research Center (2015), CPI(M) Kottayam district secretary (2015-21), Chairman of 'Abhayam' charitable society, director of Kerala State Co-operative Housing Federation (since 2017), Asianet Satco Union chairman, Coffee Workers Union chairman, member of Pambadi grama panchayat, Pambadi Rural housing Co- operative society president, administration member of Pambadi Co-operative bank etc.
He is a member of CPI(M) state committee since 2015. He is married to P. R. Geethamma and has two daughters Dr.Hima Vasavan and Greeshma Vasavan.
